The mosque was originally built in 1889, on the orders of Sultan Abdul Aziz,[1] the late 19th century ruler of the Sultanate of Langkat. [2] The architecture of this mosque became an inspiration for the architecture of the Zahir Mosque in Kedah, Malaysia.
