Transparent background question

I have a clip art that has a white background. I only have photoshop elements. How do I give it a transparent background and then save it as a file to use elsewhere?
I have it in .jpg, .eps, .psd
This is my first time using photoshop

Gif only supports 256 colors though and isnt supported on dreamstime anyway.
Png's have transparency and use the same compression as GIF but with millions of colors.

Or a vector illustration or photo with clipping paths. Many .AI and .EPS images uploaded as additional format have paths so you can delete the background or other parts and easily change the colors in all or parts of the image.

For example, this photo includes a path around every crane so it can be placed on a colored background, or no background.

Using the magic wand or lasso tool, select the area of the image you want to be transparent. This is actually the simple method. But you can checkout a full tutorial about this subject - https://www.colorexpertsbd.com/blog/background-remove-using-adobe-photoshop-cs6/

It is very easy to make your image transparent if clipping path has done already. Click right on path layer and select layer mask. Or click the option layer mask instant.
A good tutorial about these topic is here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s-PcUjG-rrk&feature=youtu.be

Save it as a .png not a gif
